Lao Tzu


Lao Tzu (The Old Wise Man) is the author of the Taoist philosophical classic "Tao Te Ching".  People regarding him as the founder of Taoism.  He was born in around 600 B.C. and held the position of the Minister of the Imperial Archives at the royal court of Chou Dynasty.  Confucius consulted Lao Tzu about the meaning of the Tao when he was in his mid-twenties.  In fact Confucius went back to visit him several times before Lao Tzu made his retreat to the west of China and famously left behind his wisdom in the classic "Tao Te Ching".
